Do You Like Saving Money Every Minute Of The Day?
Brick siding improves your ENERGY STAR® performance by lowering your HERS (Home Energy Rating) Index. The home energy rating system, established by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), is a standard measurement of the home's energy efficiency. An energy rating allows a home buyer to easily compare the energy costs for the homes being considered.
A home with a HERS Index of 85 or lower is certified as an ENERGY STAR® Home. A home with a HERS Index of 85 is 15% more energy efficient than a home with a HERS Index of 100 (the lower the number the better).
As part of an independent study using RESNET's rating system, a two story, 2,200 square foot house was modeled with all parameters being equal except that one house was clad in brick and one house was clad with a non-brick siding material. The house without brick siding (another siding material was modeled) had a HERS Index of 80 and the same house with brick siding had a HERS Index of 77. That means that the brick house is more energy efficient than the non-brick house.
Again, good for the environment... good for your bottom line.
